The intermolecular structure of bimolecular complexes formed on Pt(111) at room temperature through CHO interactions between 1-methylnaphthalene or 1-ethylnaphthalene and 2,2,2-trifluoroacetophenone is directed by the partial dehydrogenation of the alkyl groups.
